Ecuador - A country between ice and fire
Ecuador, named after the equator that crosses the country a few kilometers from the capital Quito, is located in the northwest of the South American continent.
Before the Spanish conquest (1533), this country was part of the great Inca Empire, which stretched for more than 5000 km off the Pacific coast of South America.
When the Inca empire spread in this area at the end of the XV century, it already had a long cultural tradition. A large number of archaeological findings demonstrate the existence of several previous cultures, whose rule and heyday followed.
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, was founded in 1534. In the decades that followed, more new cities emerged. Many found objects related to music show the obvious importance that was given to music in pre-Columbian cultures. Even today in Ecuador there are still many forms of music that presumably have preserved many of the old traditions.
